Overheard at Appalachian

Listening is an underappreciated skill.

Even I, who make a blog entry out of it, don’t always really pay attention to what I hear.

However, sometimes people say things that make you sit up and listen.

This week, I heard someone talking about a friend who had recently, unexpectedly died. I didn’t know how to react – I didn’t know the person talking, and she didn’t know me. However, I hope she knows that someone, at least, was listening, and understood how difficult a time she is going through.

The Weekly Idiot

Spring Break

I hate Spring.

It is paradoxical that such a so-called pretty time of the year is so filled with horror, hatred, and other assorted ire, but what are you going to do?

All of the birth, rebirth, and other forms of nativity that occur during the spring months just as easily could have taken place during the summer, right?

I don’t assume to know the plan for our planet, but as a denizen, I have the right to complain.

I live in Raleigh, and spring is a bit different there.

The Mountaineer lead has extended to 12 runs, as they lead the Aggies 16-4.

One Mountaineer run in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth brough the Mountaineer lead to 14 at 16-2 before the Aggies notched two runs in the top of the seventh.

It’s hard to find a player for the Mountaineers who has yet to score a run today. In fact, it’s actually impossible.

Each of the Mountaineers who stepped to the plate today have scored a run. Barring any late substitutions, it doesn’t look like that fact will change.

Check out The Appalachian later this evening for a full post game summary.

This game is quickly getting out of hand for the Aggies as they find themselves trailing Appalachian  after the top of the fifth inning, 12-2.

Pitching and catching errors have plagued them so far today, as they have a total of four passed balls and four wild pitches.

Overheard at Appalachian

I often wonder what I would do if, in the course of ‘overhearing’ things, I was to actually hear something important.

Something like a government secret, or a dramatic murder, or a confession to a secret passion for Elton John.

However, so far, I have mostly overheard people talking about their classes, describing their locations to friends on their cell phones, and mumbling unintelligibly. Maybe my important discovery is waiting in the wings. Or maybe nothing interesting is happening around here. Who knows?
