Appalachian held out in a close one Saturday afternoon, knocking off Furman 77-75 in the pair’s second meeting of the season.
The Mountaineers reached victory with help from Donald Sims and Isaac Butts, who had 20 and 16 points each, respectively.
Appalachian almost gave the win away after leading 37-26 at halftime. Furman shot 7-13 from 3-point range to help keep the game close in the second half.
Furman eventually brought the score to 75-73, but Sims hit two free throws after he was fouled on an inbounds pass with 8 seconds remaining to help seal the game.
ASU moves to 8-11 overall and 5-6 in SoCon play on the season.
